Catherine of Aragon, Henry VIII, Eleanor of Castile, Princess Mary, Prince Henry
Queen Catherine gave birth to a baby daughter on 19 February 1516, after a long and difficult labour. (1) But she died three days later. She was only thirty years old. Henry was pleased that he had a daughter, whom he named Mary, but sad that his beloved wife had died. He wore black for the next three months. Catherine was buried in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Henry desperately wanted a son and heir. So he would need to get married. Before he married Catherine of Aragon, he had been betrothed to Eleanor of Austria, the eldest child of Philip I of Castile and Joanna of Castile. (2) She was Archduchess of Austria and Infanta of Castile. Henry and Eleanor were married on 14 September 1516. She was crowned Queen of England in Westminster Abbey on 27 September 1516.
Eleanor gave birth to a healthy baby boy on 23 June 1517. There was much celebration at the birth of a son to the king. Henry and Eleanor named their son, Henry,
