Pop Culture Timelines Go-To Thread

Not now a days, or though some of the latest have such high specs you'll need a new machine and some very old stuff won't run on modern systems.
This means that if another PC manufacturer/other operating systems dominates in the region, then there should not be any serious obstacles. However, why then are there versions of PC games for Linux on torrents?

Many have been modded for that system. Other run on WINE or other Windows emulator's.

Honestly, it’s kind of strange that there are no Sega-Sony team-up TLs that experiment with the possibility of a Japanese-made Sonic RPG made by SquareSoft - ESPECIALLY considering that - if Nintendo sticking with cartridges for their fifth-gen console as IOTL is a given at least - Square is - no doubt - going to flock to Sega (and Sony too!) with their personally-preferred CD-ROM technology over the less ideal cart format of Nintendo, and plus, Square has already had experience with developing an RPG dedicated to a mainly-platforming mascot franchise, that being the Super Mario RPG that they made in the dying days of their relationship with Nintendo before leaving for Sony IOTL.

Semi-inspired by @Otakuninja2006's TL-2K23 (aka the Nickelodeon hatefic), I have an idea for a timeline about the semi-fall of Adult Swim.
  • It starts in 2019, with an OC at a position of power in Adult Swim. He has multiple arguments with the head brass about the direction of the block, how much time it's taking up, how much of that time is dedicated to Fox shows, etc. He's eventually let go, and angrily heads over to Disney, who has just bought Fox, and with it, both FXX and the Fox animation library that Adult Swim is known for airing.
  • The OC brings to Disney an idea to take down Adult Swim, an idea which develops into a full plan, one that is shared with those at Disney. It's called "Operation: Drown", a play on Adult "Swim".
    • The main part of the plan is essentially to move all the Fox animated shows over to FXX. FXX already had the Simpsons on standby. Adult Swim's contracts for Family Guy and Bob's Burgers were set to expire in a few years, and they had yet to get the rights to the latest seasons; FXX would gain rerun rights to both these newer seasons and eventually the older ones from Adult Swim, much like IOTL (up until recently).
    • The other shows were even easier- wait for the rights to expire. Unlike Adult Swim, the other networks that aired adult animation (primarily Viacom-owned) didn't focus on it as much, and didn't really care too much about these specific shows in general. Viacom's contracts to King of the Hill were set to expire in late 2019. Their rights to Futurama were non-exclusive, and were being shared with Syfy. So either FXX would also share in the non-exclusive rights, or they might have to wait until Syfy's rights expire. Viacom had The Cleveland Show until 2022 (though IOTL they managed to share with FXX from 2021 until Viacom lost their rights), but The Cleveland Show was one of the smaller shows in the catalog, and not the best received, so it wasn't a high priority.
    • The main sticking point is American Dad, which was coproduced by TBS, and thus they had the primary rights to air the show. However, this was easy enough- Disney still owned the series, so they could just not renew the series past its current production seasons, which would loosen up reruns to air on FXX afterwards. (IOTL, this renewal happened in January 2020, with these seasons premiering in 2021.) TBS and Adult Swim might still have rerun rights to the show, but they wouldn't be exclusive anymore- and the airings on FXX would lower the value of the TBS and Adult Swim airings.
    • Of course, originals would also be in development, similar to Adult Swim's own slate of original series. They had Archer, and Cake was about to launch/had just launched. A slate of potential Fox hopefuls, such as Solar Opposites and Central Park, had been sold to other streaming services like Hulu and Apple TV+. However, Disney now had a majority stake and total control of Hulu, so it should be easy to air Hulu's animated originals on FXX as well. And, of course, placing new animated originals into development.
    • FXX would also get into the anime business, partnering up with Viz Media to air both reruns and new anime series. (Inspired by Disney+ and Hulu getting the streaming rights everywhere for that new Bleach series) While not anime, they would also pick up various YA action-adventure series in Disney's library, such as Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
    • All live-action FXX series, such as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, would eventually move to the main FX while FXX becomes 100% adult animation.
  • The big plans are announced in early 2020, with the news of American Dad ending. This shocks many, ESPECIALLY those at Adult Swim.
  • In fall 2020, the network starts its transition to an adult animation service. King of the Hill, Futurama, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars all join the schedule, with these shows, Archer, and The Simpsons all airing weekdays. The limited selections of Family Guy and Bob's Burgers episode fill out the schedule as well, airing on alternating days rather than a daily chunk due to the limited selections. Anime series are also added, with reruns of classic Inuyasha, Bleach, and Naruto (the latter shared with Disney X-D) as well as potentially newer introductions (either now or later on). Dave, IOTL premiering on FXX, instead premieres on regular FX. Always Sunny also moves premieres back to FX, though reruns may or may not continue on FXX... for now.
  • Also around this time, FXX hops onto Twitter, becoming one of those "brand pretending to be a person" accounts like Wendy's. FXX then goes on a Twitter war against Adult Swim.
  • In December 2020, American Dad comes to an end.
  • In September 2021, Adult Swim loses the older episodes of Family Guy to FXX. Disney DOES NOT supply reruns of KotH and Futurama like IOTL, leaving the pre-11 PM slots to be filled with the on-borrowed-time Bob's Burgers (which itself was limited in how many times it could air a week) and reruns of the now-ended American Dad.
  • FXX also gets the rights to air all the episodes of American Dad (though TBS and Adult Swim still keep their rights), leaving Adult Swim scrambling for something else to air in the 8-11 PM timeslot.
  • FXX also probably gets Cleveland around this time like IOTL, and Always Sunny leaves. They also start rerunning Solar Opposites. Bob's Burgers is moved primarily to weekends, since they still don't have ALL the episodes yet.
  • While Viz Media's existing Toonami shows still air (mainly Naruto: Shippuden), new series move to FXX, and with Crunchyroll abandoning Toonami, the block is in some big trouble.
  • While CN takes over 8 PM for the fall, by the time Adult Swim gets 8 PM back in December, the two shows filling the slots filled by KOTH and Futurama (8 and 9 PM, respectively) IOTL are... Regular Show and Naruto Shippuden. FXX on Twitter has a field day with Adult Swim airing a CN (kids channel) show, as does the rest of twitter. When Adult Swim brings up how FXX is airing Star Wars the Clone Wars and Naruto (the latter being shared with fellow kids' channel Disney X-D, FXX rebutts by essentially saying "at least i don't have adult in my name" or "your slogan is literally all kids out of the pool".
  • Also in 2021, FXX overtakes Adult Swim in the ratings. Internally, Adult Swim is panicking because FXX is beating them.
  • 2022 is probably similar to IOTL, with the changes made earlier, of course.
  • In 2023, Bob's Burgers is still set to leave, and many of the massive changes made to AS are still announced- MAWS and Unicorn moving, the 5-8 PM expansions, Checkered Past... Also, knowing Bob's Burgers is set to leave and looking for something to fill the waves AS WELL AS fill the new hours (not counting Checkered Past, AS still gains an extra hour), Adult Swim picks up Adventure Time (which they briefly aired in 2018) and Steven Universe from Cartoon Network.
  • It's at this point that ALL HELL breaks loose for Adult Swim. With American Dad over, KotH and Futurama unavailable, and Bob's Burgers still set to leave, these new changes reek of desperation. FXX also goes into overdrive with the Twitter slamming, dubbing Adult Swim "Child Swim". In addition, moving CN (kids channel)'s big LGBTQ+ show Steven Universe onto an "adults only" block is not taken well, especially by the people who actually worked on the show. This is also around the time the Justin Roiland allegations come out, leaving Adult Swim's lone draw Rick and Morty permanently tainted. In short, it's not looking good for them.
  • All is not well for FXX, however. Their originals haven't popped off like intended, and Solar Opposites (Hulu original, but airing on FXX) and Koala Man (FXX original ITTL) are swept up in the Roiland controversy. In addition, negotiations with Spectrum still turn south ITTL, and the blackout still occurs. Higher-ups at Disney decide to stop the Operation: Drown project, as it's unlikely that Spectrum will still carry FXX after this is all over. (Indeed, they don't, much like IOTL.)
  • However, our OC is down, but he's not out. Knowing FXX is crumbling, he meets up with Disney brass for a final ace up his sleeve, and the usually private matter of TV rerun negotiations turn public... and sinister.
  • A video is uploaded by FXX's Twitter, as well as YouTube. In it, the OC speaks on his motivations for all this, as well as his ultimatum.
    • He gives his demands- a start time of 9 PM at the earliest for AS; the end of Checkered Past; moving Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Regular Show back to Cartoon Network; moving My Adventures with Superman and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal to Cartoon Network, where they were intended to air; and finally, the firing of CN and AS president Michael Ouwleen.
    • If Adult Swim follows the demands, Disney will give Adult Swim the entirity of the Fox animation catalog- not only bringing back Family Guy, Futurama, and King of the Hill, and keeping Bob's Burgers, but also bringing the Simpsons onto the channel for the first time. Alternatively, the more family-friendly series like Bob's Burgers and The Simpsons could air on Cartoon Network instead, or both.
    • If they fail to comply, then not only will Bob's Burgers leave, but all of the Fox shows- Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob, Futurama, KotH, and even reruns of American Dad- will be given to Comedy Central.
  • Stumped and knowing Disney has them by the balls, the Adult Swim Twitter launches a poll to determine what their answer will be. Reactions are mixed. Some don't want Adult Swim to bow to Disney, and vote to deny the deal. Some have turned against Adult Swim, and feel they've deserved their fate, and vote to deny it. Some want to save or bring back the old, pre-FXX Adult Swim, and vote to approve the deal (even resulting in a #SaveAdultSwim hashtag). Some realize that Disney has Adult Swim trapped either way, and vote to approve it because at least this means Family Guy is back and Steven Universe is gone. Some just want Simpsons on Adult Swim and vote to approve it. Many find it funny how this FXX-Adult Swim rivalry has essentially climaxed in a literal hostage situation.
  • Ultimately, while the final vote is to approve the deal, it ultimately doesn’t come down to the voters, but the advertisers, who have pressured AS to approve the deal. The changes are made, AS is now permanently at 9 PM, Family Guy is back, all the CN shows and intended CN shows are back at CN, Simpsons is now a CN show, Michael Ouwleen is out, and the fate of CN and Adult Swim hangs in the balance, as this whole fiasco has proved just how dependent Adult Swim is on Disney.

Now I’m not interested in generally utopian timelines, but I’m glad Adult Swim in your alternate scenario managed to survive through all the commotion and live to enjoy a significantly happier ending than Nickelodeon did in TL-2K23.
